Construction began in 2005 and the Hotel welcomed its first guests in April 2006. . Its location is unique with the cooling easterly trade winds and panoramic views of the harbour and of the western Caribbean Sea. On clear days, on the near horizon, guests can see the mountains of mainland Honduras and – most especially - Pico Bonito.

The Lighthouse is undoubtedly one of Utila's most picturesque settings. Situated a walk away from the central area, where the roads can get busy. Light House Hotel sits over the water just beyond a gated entrance at the foot of Utila’s only bridge. Surrounded by water it is wonderfully peaceful and perfect for a relaxed diving holiday.

Thelma and O'Neil are more than innkeepers, they are amazing hosts! O’Neil by request can both take and collect from Utila’s airport. The rooms are simply furnished, but servicable and immaculate. The air-conditioner is quiet and efficient. They sell 5 gallon jugs of water for almost nothing.
