Unresponsive to divers, yet shine a torch on these Corals at night and watch them feed upon sea worms attracted by the artificial light.
Habitat & Lifestyle
Most commonly found between 20-80 feet on reeftops and seaweed reef slopes. Polyps are extended only at night, their tentacles forming long meandering rows along the ridges.
Distribution
Common South Florida, Bahamas, Caribbean.
Unique Physique
Large rounded domes form colonies, but also encrust making large rounded plates. Ridges and valleys cover the surface with a convoluted systems. A thin but distict groove runs around the ridge top, with another thin noticeable line halfway down the ridge where the slope decreases in angle and slants to form the valley. The ridges are brown and valley green, tan or whitish. The valleys contain several polyps and are usually long and meandering, but are occasionally closed, holding only one or two polyps.

Abundant - At least several sightings can be expected on nearly every dive.
