AN EXCEPTIONAL whitewater experience in your own kayak, with a professional on your side! Adrenaline pumping, first class whitewater experience!

This trip starts in a quiet eddie, explaining the basics of maneuvering on your own through wild whitewater. After some paddle strokes and more turns we gonna head down the river: some rescue training… current, waves, hydraulics… there you go: rapids and pools, drops, probably you go over a few times, eventually not at all. There are excellent class II-IV rapids, the river has it all: drops to long wave-trains.

Iguana Station

The Iguana Station, a short walk away from Utila Town’s main road, plays a crucial role in the conservation of the endemic island’s iguana species Ctenosaura bakeri, called ‘Swamper’ or ‘Wishiwilli’.

Worldwide the Swamper inhabiting only the mangrove swamps of Utila, an area less than 10 square kilometers. This fascinating animal is endangered, threatened by unsustainable development of the mangroves and beaches, to where the females go to lay their eggs, by over-hunting as well as by increasing pollution.

Carnival

The Carnival was inaugurated in 1999 to help local people on the island following the devastation of Hurricane Mitch in 1998 ("The Mitch" as it is known in Utila) and has been held every year since then. While initially held to fund local projects on the Island to improve facilities, repair roads, etc, Utila Carnival has become a week long party which attracts visitors from Honduras and throughout Central America, as well as many ex-patriot Utilians who return home for that week.
